Seoul - Otoritas bulutangkis Korea Selatan, Rabu (22/8) mengurangi hukuman untuk empat pemain yang diduga sengaja kalah pada pertandingan di Olimpiade London, dari dua tahun menjadi enam bulan setelah terjadi proses banding.
     
Jung Kyung-Eun, Kim Ha-Na, Ha Jung-Eun, dan Kim Min-Jung dilarang berpartisipasi di kompetisi-kompetisi domestik dan internasional selama enam bulan, demikian disampaikan oleh Asosiasi Bulutangkis Korea, Rabu.
    
Keempat atlet itu berkata mereka hanya mengikuti perintah pelatih Sung Han-Kook, dan asisten Kim Moon-Soo. Sebelumnya, hukuman seumur hidup mereka telah dikurangi menjadi dua tahun.
    
Delapan pebulutangkis ganda putri, dari Korea Selatan, Indonesia, dan China didiskualifikasi dari Olimpiade karena sengaja mengalah agar dapat mengamankan posisi yang lebih menguntungkan di babak berikutnya.
    
Skandal ini membuat bintang bulutangkis China, Yu Yang, pensiun dari bulutangkis.
    
Presiden Federasi Bulutangkis Dunia, Kang Young-Joong, telah menepis rumor bahwa publikasi yang buruk dari olahraga ini dapat membahayakan masa depan bulutangkis di Olimpiade.
    
Korea Selatan mendapat satu medali perunggu dari cabang olahraga bulutangkis di London - itu merupakan penampilan terburuk sepanjang partisipasi mereka di Olimpiade.

Sementara di Indonesia, PBSI akhirnya memutuskan akan menjatuhkan sanksi kepada dua pemain ganda putri andalannya, Greysia Polii dan Meiliana Jauhari. Seperti diketahui, Greysia/Meiliana harus didiskualifkasi dari Olimpiade London 2012 karena diduga sengaja mengalah pada penyisihan grup untuk menghindari lawan berat di babak perempat final.
 
Badminton World Federation (BWF) memutuskan Greysia/Meiliana dan lawannya, Ha Jung Eun/Kim Min Jung dari Korea didiskualifikasi dari turnamen paling bergengsi tersebut. Pasangan terkuat dunia asal China, Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang dan Kim Ha Na/Jung Kyung Eun dari Korea juga terkena diskualifikasi.

“Kami tak mau dipengaruhi oleh keputusan yang diambil oleh Korea atau China, karena setiap organisasi memiliki kebijakan masing-masing. Walaupun demikian, kami menghargai IOC dan BWF yang telah memutuskan bahwa Greysia/Meiliana bersalah, hal ini tidak boleh terulang lagi kedepannya. PBSI akan memberikan sanksi, namun belum bisa diumumkan bentuk sankisnya seperti apa” ujar Sekjen PBSI, Yacob Rusdianto di Pelatnas Cipayung, Selasa (21/8) sepersti dikutip situs PBSI.
 
Saat ini PBSI masih dalam proses diskusi mengenai sanksi yang akan diberikan kepada Greysia/Meiliana dan belum ada keputusan serta pemberitahuan resmi kepada keduanya. Namun ia mengaku telah beberapa kali mengadakan pertemuan kekeluargaan bersama kedua pemain untuk membicarakan masalah ini dan kemungkinan-kemungkinan yang akan terjadi.
