Cincinnati - Dua petenis asal Swiss berhasil mengempaskan lawan-lawannya dan akan bertemu di semifinal Cincinnati Masters. Stanislas Wawrinka sukses membungkam petenis Kanada, Milos Raonic, sementara Roger Federer berhasil menumbangkan Mardy Fish.
Wawrinka mengalahkan Raonic dengan pertarungan sengit. Bahkan sebelumnya, petenis 27 tahun tersebut sempat tertinggal di set pertama. Pada set awal tersebut, Wawrinka takluk 2-6.
Namun pada set kedua, Wawrinka mampu mengendalikan permainan, dia mampu mengembalikan dengan baik pukulan keras dari Raonic. Hingga akhirnya sukses merebut set kedua ini dengan skor 7-6.
Setelah berhasil menyamakan keadaan, Wawrinka terus mendominasi dan mengakhiri perlawanan Raonic dengan skor akhir di set ketiga 6-4. “Saya bermain hebat setelah menjalani dua bulan yang menyulitkan,” ujar Wawrinka, seperti disitat Yahoo Sports, Sabtu (18/8/2012).
Nantinya di babak semifinal, Wawrinka bakal menghadapi rekan senegaranya, Federer yang menghentikan langkah Fish dengan skor 6-3 7-6. Dengan gugurnya Fish atas Federer, maka tak ada satu pun petenis Amerika yang berpeluang menjadi juara di kandang sendiri.
