Anda penyuka Transformer? Tentu hal yang paling menarik saat menonton film Transformer salah satunya adalah saat adegan transformasi yang begitu keren dari sebuah mobil atau truk menjadi robot yang gagah. Nah tapi jangan pernah berpikir kalau Transformer tidak mungkin terwujud di masa depan karena banyak film fiksi yang menjadi non fiksi berkat kecanggihan teknologi. Nah kali ini ada robot kecil yang mampu menampilkan kemampuan berubah diri dengan konsep lipatan karena terinspirasi dari ORIGAMI (seni melipat kertas Jepang) dan proses biologi.
Walau robot yang Anda lihat ini bukan seperti robot keren seperti Transformer tapi robot origami hasil ciptaan periset dari MIT dan Harvard ini mampu merubah bentuk dari robot yang “datar” seperti kertas menjadi bentuk aslinya dengan empat kaki yang bisa berjalan.
Desain robot ini juga terpinspirasi dari proses biologi seperti bagaimana amino acid membentuk protein dari struktur datar menjadi coil tiga dimensi.
Robot ini memulai berubah bentuk saat panas diaplikasikan pada “ Shrinky dinks” (nama material yang digunakan) sebagai bagian dari materi kertas komposit yang digunakan pada tubuh robot ini. Memang tampilan robot ini sangat sederhana dan tidak menarik karena memang robot ini menggunakan bahan yang sangat murah dan mereka ingin menghasilkan prototipe pertama untuk konsep transformasi robot yang mereka pikirkan dalam waktu yang singkat.
