Kairo - Fatima Nabil mencatat sejarah. Ia menjadi presenter pertama yang berjilbab yang muncul di televisi milik pemerintah Mesir. Dalam balutan jilbab berwarna krem, dan jas hitam Fatima membacakan buletin berita siang, Minggu 2 September 2012.
"Akhirnya revolusi juga terjadi di televisi milik pemerintah," kata Nabil. Ia berharap kemunculannya ini diikuti tak hanya presenter berita tapi juga presenter cuaca dan lainnya.
"Saat ini, standar bukan tergantung pada jilbab, yang sebenarnya merupakan pilihan pribadi setiap perempuan. Tapi lebih pada profesionalitas dan intelektual," ujarnya.
Sejak televisi pemerintah ini berdiri tahun 1960, dibawah rejim Presiden Hosni Mubarok, perempuan yang mengenakan jilbab dilarang menjadi presenter. Aturan ini sempat ditentang sejumlah aktivis hak asasi dan kelompok liberal, namun kandas.
Pemerintah baru yang dipimpin Presiden Mohammed Mursi, mencabut aturan ini. Menteri Informasi Baru Saleh Abdel-Makshoud mengatakan sudah banyak perempuan berjilbab yang muncul sebagai presenter di channel-channel televisi Arab dan internasional. Jadi perubahan ini tak menjadi masalah apalagi saat ini hampir 70% perempuan Mesir mengenakan jilbab.
Petinggi stasiun televisi tersebut mengatakan munculnya Nabila bisa membangkitkan semangat perempuan lain yang ingin tetap mempertahankan jilbab mereka tanpa harus takut kehilangan pekerjaan. (Sumber: Tempo.co)
